My favorite part of creating this solar plate etching was in the drawing of the image. I rarely need to create complete drawings for my woodcuts but spent many hours working on the image for this etching.
I drew directly on a frosted acetate with varying charcoals, pencils and ink. Because the acetate would create a plate tone I then cut out the areas that I wanted to keep the color of the paper. There is also a lot of hand wiping of the plate in the foreground so each print pulled is slightly different and unique.
